Empty Diagonal

Brisbane French Theatre's new original comedy takes you to meet those left behind by modernization, and humorously explores themes of professional and romantic failure. Between superstition, bad faith, reinvention, and a quest for redemption, unlikely bonds form between the castaways of rural France.

Welcome to 'La Belle Hélène', a modest roadside restaurant deserted since the opening of a nearby motorway. Orbiting around Thierry, the grumpy manager with a recently broken heart, are Cassandre, an overworked and cynical waitress; Didier, a cook more comfortable playing boules than working behind a stove; and the only remaining customer, Madame Susan, a well-meaning but unreliable fortune teller. Is it already too late for 'La Belle Hélène'? Will it suffer the same fate as so many other roadside restaurants across France?

Approximate runtime: 120 minutes including an intermission
A licensed bar will be open before the show and during the interval. Snacks will also be available.
